State tax filing
I played around with this a little bit. I reduced all of my Oregon estimated tax payments in order to generate penalties and interest. When I looked at the printed copy of my return, it included an extra page titled “Additional Information from your 2020 Oregon Tax Return” for Form OR-10, Explanation Statement for Line 34. It correctly listed the dates, amount paid, running balance, number of days, and penalty.
However, this page goes missing when I enter the actual estimated tax payments I made. Because I made the payments on time and in the correct amounts, no penalty or interest was due. But, it seems like Oregon would like to know when I made those payments and in what amounts so they can validate them. That can’t be done when the “See Stmt*” Form OR-10 refers to is missing.
This method of adding an additional page appears to be new this year. Last year, TurboTax put the payments, amounts, running balance, number of days, and interest due directly on Form OR-10 (as TaxAct still does for 2020). For 2020, TurboTax now puts them on a separate page. I’m sure that’s all well and good, but I think you need to include that separate page even when no penalty or interest is generated. Otherwise, you’ve lost the record of when the estimated payments were made and in what amount.
Can this issue be looked into further? Thank you.
