Since the first retirement date was earlier, and particularly if retirement funds were used since 1 Jan 2013, the new retirement date would not accurately reflect the retirement period from the military.
In general, the taxability of pensions in Michigan is tied to the type of retirement and the age of the recipient.
Secondly, the number of exemptions will be based on your filing status and also on your status as qualifying for additional special exemptions.
To check what was entered for your retirement, follow these steps:
- Go to the left menu and select Federal which will open to your Wages & Income.
- Scroll down to IRA, 401(k), Pension Plan Withdrawals (1099-R) and Review.
