State tax filing
@nicog wrote:I received a reply that I am required to purchase a program to file the return for a different state. Will I be prompt for the program after entering the info for one state ordo I need to download this program? Also, my wife is completing similar returns. I am assuming that the download for $40 for the additional state would cover both of us.
Thank you, Nick
If your product includes a state program, then there is a fee to add a second (different) state program. With a state program you can prepare as many state returns of that state that you need.
You should finish your Federal return first before beginning the state returns. To ensure accurate calculations, you should prepare your non-resident state return first before you prepare the resident state return, so your resident state can give you credit for any taxes paid to the non-resident state.
If you told TurboTax in the Personal Info section that you made money in another state and told it which state, then when you go to the State Taxes tab after finishing the Federal return, it should show your states listed. One of them you can download as your included state program, if you haven't already. It may prompt you to purchase the second state program. When you purchase it through the program, you'll see the screens below:

If you have any problems when going through all that, go back to the first screen and click on the Help link as in the images below:
