No, that would not be "Kansas source income". If you were renting in Kansas for that short period of time, you can (if you want) also file a Kansas State Income Tax Return, but if you had no income and therefore no withholding - AND you were only there for a few short months - you truly do not even need to file that return as you don't owe them anything and they don't owe you anything.  Per IRS regulations, you are presumed a resident of a given state for tax purposes if you've resided in that state for more than 6 months continuously and you would be considered a non-resident of the state that was your previous state of residency if you were gone for more than 18 months. Since neither apply to your unique situation, then just keep it simple and use your original state of residency as your full year state of residency.
