Withholding (not year-end) question while living in RI but working in MA
Hello—
From what I’ve gathered, if I live in RI but work in MA, I will need to file 2 state returns: a resident RI return, and a non-resident MA return. At year-end, I will receive a credit from RI for any taxes paid to MA, essentially wiping out any “double-taxation.”
Does this mean on my bi-weekly paycheck, both RI and MA state taxes will be withheld? If so, is there any way to reduce this weekly burden? I understand I will get back this money anyway come refund time, but would obviously prefer to not give it up in the first place. If there’s no way to prevent this, I’ll just have to suck it up!
