Which states do I need to file in?
I'm filing for my son Brian. His address (legal and on W-2 and 1099 misc) is my home in Florida. Brian is a dancer. In January 2019, he went to California to start rehearsal with a music group for the purpose of touring the U.S. and the world for concerts. The concerts were in several U.S. cities and then went on to Europe for many more dates. Brian received seven W-2s, from the same employer (the payroll company in California), each with the same Box 1 through Box 6 info, but with different state info. Some of the state info includes boxes 16, 17 and 19 numbers.
1. Do I need to file a state return for him in each state?
2. Do I need to file a state return for him in California where the tour began and where the payroll company and the music group's home is?
Thank you!
Dan
