State tax filing
It depends. Florida does not charge income tax, so all income would be taxed by Utah. Typically, any out of state tax actually charged would be a credit. As for dates, if you were in Utah, left and returned, follow these steps:
- make sure that the dates entered apply to the correct address as of 12/31/2019
- total the number of days in Utah and set a date to make sure that the full number of days residing in Utah are reported
- For example, to report living in Utah 2/1/2019-3/31/2019, and 7/1-10/31, report 182 days to Utah. Therefore, 1/1-7/1 would go to Utah.
TurboTax will properly calculate the Utah tax liability.
Keep in mind, Utah Form TC-40 begins with the total Federal adjusted gross income from your federal return.
2019 Utah Form TC-40 Instructions page 9, column 2: Nonresidents and part-year residents: Enter the full amount of your federal adjusted gross income from your federal return (as noted above), not just your Utah income.
See page 27 of the for line by line instructions for the Non or Part-year Resident Schedule.
