State tax filing
It depends if there are any other circumstances that were entered, such as applying the refund to the next tax year.
To confirm the refund and identify the refund treatment, I recommend checking the actual State of Maryland tax return, Form 502, page 3 and 4.
To see this in TurboTax, follow these steps:
- From the left menu, select Tax Tools
- Print Center
- Click Print, save or preview this year's return
- Mark the boxes for the returns you want to download
- Follow through the rest of the prompts based on how much detail you want to save for your PDF.
- When the PDF opens, there is another area in the top corner of this window to select download or print.
If the refund was applied to next year's estimates:
This would have been done in the final review of your state return. To return there, open the state return and scroll down to Other Situations. It will be under Estimated Tax Payments for Next Year.
If this is the explanation, you may be able to adjust it after Maryland accepts the return. You will need to contact them and explain that you want your applied refund transferred back to the current tax year.
