State tax filing
You must enter your IL PIN as your efile signature.
The pin from Illinois is used to verify your identity when filing your tax return.
If you live in IL, you MUST get an IL PIN from the state department.
If you don’t know your Illinois PIN you can:
- look it up on Illinois’ website, IL-PIN Inquiry - Illinois.gov or
- by calling (800) 732-8866 or (217) 782-3336.
To get your PIN, you will need your Social Security Number and one of the following:
1. 2018 Adjusted Gross Income (IL-1040, line 1)
2. Drivers’ license number
3. Illinois state ID number
Before you can e-file your Illinois taxes, Illinois requires that you provide some personal information to confirm your identity. They’ll compare this info with their records before they accept your tax return. If the information doesn’t match, there may be delays processing your taxes.
@lindasuesmith59 Did you enter your IL PIN? Follow these steps:
- Open your tax return, if it's not already open.
- Select File and proceed to the Sign Your Illinois Return screen.
- On this screen, select I don't have my Illinois 2018 Adjusted Gross Income.
- Enter your signature information in only one of the signature option fields, leaving the others blank:
- 2018 AGI from line 1 of your 2018 Form IL-1040 (not your federal AGI from your IRS 1040 form); or
- 8-digit Illinois PIN, which you might be able look up at the Illinois Department of Revenue's website; or
- Illinois driver's license number or State ID (info from other states won't work; must be from Illinois).
