If you itemized your deductions in 2018, you do need to enter that amount in your return. Here is how to enter that:
- Use the search box in the upper right corner to search for 1099G state refund.
- Click on Go to state and local tax refunds.
- Answer the first question, Yes.
- Check the box next to State or local income tax refunds, click Continue.
- Box 2 is your total refund received in 2019.
- Box 3 is the year that the refund is for.
There will be some follow up questions to determine if the refund is taxable in 2019.
