State tax filing
Not convinced you need to file NJ. The employer thought you should file a NJNR for non-residents of NJ.
I have 2 thoughts.
1. Were you actually a NJ resident or just passing time until you became a DE resident? If so, you don't need to file NJ at all. Non resident with no income.
2. If you were a part year resident: Do you have pay stubs where you can get a reasonable estimate for your NJ wages? If so, then use that number. It sounds like nothing was reported to NJ so a reasonable number that you can back up will be valid if they choose to ask questions.
