State tax filing

It depends.  North Dakota and Minnesota are reciprocal states.  It means that if you live in Minnesota, but work in ND, you only pay tax in MN.  If your W-2 does not show North Dakota tax taken out, you will only file a Minnesota return.  You will click no to the question if you worked in another state because you are not taxed in North Dakota.  If North Dakota taxes were taken out, you will file a North Dakota nonresident reciprocal return to get back all of the taxes you paid to ND.  Unfortunately, you will need them because Minnesota taxes your income.  (If you are a North Dakota resident you would obviously only file a North Dakota return since you only lived and worked there).

If your ND job is taking out ND taxes, you can have them take out MN taxes instead.  See this FAQ for more information:  https://ttlc.intuit.com/replies/4776822
