State tax filing
In the state of Mississippi, there is a dollar amount that you can make before being required to file a return. In the state of Louisiana, there is not. You are required to file a Louisiana return if you are required to file a federal return. Please view the details below to determine which state(s) you are required to file.
Mississippi Filing Requirements: You should file a Mississippi Income Tax Return if any of the following statements apply to you
- You have Mississippi income tax withheld from your wages (other than Mississippi gambling income).
- You are a non-resident with income taxed by Mississippi (other than gambling income): Your filing status is Single and your gross income is over $8,300 (plus $1,500 per dependent). Your filing status is Married you and your spouse has gross income over $16,600 (plus $1,500 per dependent).

Louisiana Filing Requirements:
- Louisiana nonresidents with income from Louisiana sources who are required to file a federal return must file a Louisiana Individual Income Tax Return.
- Taxpayers who have overpaid their tax through withholding or declaration of estimated tax must file a return to obtain a refund or credit.
- Military personnel whose domicile (home of record) is Louisiana and who is required to file a federal income tax return must file a return and report all of their income regardless of where they were stationed.
