State tax filing

Why does it just say ready to mail? I wanted turbo tax to efile.

Does "it" refer to a Missouri state return like the title of this old thread from 3 years ago?   For this answer I'll assume that is the case, and will also assume this is a 2025 return that you recently prepared.

If the status at the Tax Home says "ready to mail", that means you either did not successfully complete the efile process or chose the "file by mail" option.   If you didn't actually physically print, sign, date, and mail it, you can change the filing method and file by efile.    Here's how:

To change the filing method on an unfiled 2025 return, at the Tax Home page you first need to open your return interview back up.   Look for a link "Add a State."   That doesn't really add one, but will open up the return.  If you are referring to a state return, then I would look through the state return and run the state review to be sure nothing has changed with the weekly updates.   If you haven't already done so, you should print out the state return and review it before efiling.  Then you can go to the FILE section and choose to efile the state return.   Be sure you continue all the way through that section until you get to a screen with a big orange "Transmit Returns Now" button and actually click on it to transmit.

NOTE:   You didn't mention anything about your Federal return.  You cannot efile the state return if you did not efile the Federal return, or if the Federal return efile was not accepted.   If for some reason you mailed the Federal return, you would also have to mail the state return.
