State tax filing
The total amount of tax liability on your New Jersey return is $860 (Line 49 on Form NJ-1040NR). This amount must match the amount on your New York return. Once I made that correction on your return, the error cleared.
For step-by-step instructions on accessing that area of your New York return, please follow the instructions below:
- Open your New York return.
- Continue through the screens until you reach, Take a look at New York credits and taxes.
- Scroll down to Taxes Paid to Another State. Click Update.
- Click Edit next to New Jersey.
- Enter $860 in the box next to New Jersey tax paid by you. Click Continue.
- Continue through your return and your error should be cleared.
