State tax filing

@AmyC thank you for taking time to reply.  I did end up digging more into this.  It just caught me by surprise because I hadn't been hit with it in previous years, and I didn't think my tax situation changed *that* much this year over last.  I've always owed the state a few hundred $$.  My AGI did go up about $1500, but my federal taxable income actually went down for 2024 (more itemized deductions, but moot point here).  Regardless, it appears I've been right on the edge in previous years for state tax but had no clue about any of this because I just let Turbotax do it's thing.  What actually made a difference for 2024 is MI raised their tax rate.  While it seems like a small increase, it does tip the scale towards a penalty in my case.  IE, if I use previous year's tax rate (4.05%), I did pay in 90% tax liability throughout 2024 payroll deductions and would not have been penalized.  If I use the increased rate (4.25%), I did not.  So a state tax increase caught me off guard, costing me a $115 penalty.  Which stinks IMO, because I don't know how the average person is to know when things like that are happening.  So yes, it appears that I haven't met the requirements for 2024 to avoid a penalty unfortunately, and should make some adjustments to my W4.  Ugghhh....
