Difficult to say from here since we don't see the return.
Yes, you should do the non-resident North Carolina return first, allocating on the North Carolina income from the current job W-2. (Amount A)
Next you'll do your resident Virginia return. VA will claim all your income, (Amount A + Amount B) but will also give you a credit for the tax paid to NC on the NC portion (Amount A) of income.
If the W-2 was uploaded, I suggest they be deleted and entered manually, (First try to just edit Box 15, 16 and 17 of the current W-2 to see if that takes care of things)
(I have not seen questions with your particular concern, but uploading documents often causes issues)
