State tax filing
Late in the Virginia interview portion of TurboTax Online, you come to a screen named Health Care Information.
It explains that:
Uninsured Virginia taxpayers may indicate on their tax form that they'd like Virginia to provide certain information to the Department of Medical Assistance Services (DMAS), the Department of Social Services (VDSS), and/or the Virginia Health Benefit Exchange (VHBE) for purposes of determining eligibility for income-based medical programs.
You're then asked to select Yes or No to the question:
Do you consent to the sharing of your tax return information with the DMAS, VDSS, and/or VHBE regarding medical assistance programs?
If you answer Yes, then you'll be asked on the next screen, titled Disclosure of Tax Return Information, which organizations you want your information disclosed to. You must select at least one of the organizations.
Finally, on the Health Care Coverage Contact Information screen, you'll be asked how you want to be contacted by the relevant organizations.
If you want to change your answers to any of these questions in TurboTax Online:
- Open TurboTax Online
- Select Tax Home in the left pane
- Select the dropdown to the right of State Taxes
- Select Pick up where you left off
- Proceed through the state interview until you get to the A few things before we wrap up your state taxes screen
- Select Revisit to the right of Health Care Coverage Information Consent
From there, you can make any necessary changes.
If the TurboTax Online navigation suggested above doesn't look like what you're seeing, see the TurboTax Help article Why does the TurboTax navigation menu look different for me?.
