Closing an IRA from abroad
Hello,
I've been living in Japan for twenty years.
In 2019, I opened an IRA at a Merrill branch in Connecticut using my godmother's address. This was done with the bank's permission.
I want to early withdrawal all the funds and close the IRA. This is ok with the bank, and they tell me that 6% will go to Connecticut.
I don't mind losing 6% since the IRA has a small amount in it, but my question is will this require to file a Connecticut state return even though I haven't lived there since the early nineties and have no plans on returning?
Thank you so much in advance for any answers you have.
