State tax filing
if you e-file and your tax return is rejected, you have 5 days to resubmit. if you do so, the acceptance date is the date of the original submission. So a rejected submission on April 18th had until the 23rd to accept and there would be no late penalty for late filing (the money still needed to be there on the 18th).
if the state works the same way, suggest showing them documentation of your original submission with the date indicating the rejection.
this link doesn't limit the rules to federal, but rather 'governments'
this does argue for either filing earlier or paying money due at the IRS or state website and NOT depending on auto-debit from the tax return. (the IRS or state does not have the banking information to initiate the debit unless the return is accepted. This banking function is NOT initiated by Turbo Tax, but rather the government agencies.
