Do I still list NYC as part year residency? While in grad school in NYC, I rented an apartment for a few months. But my permanent address has always been Long Island.
From www.tax.ny.gov:
"The requirements to be a New York City resident are the same as those needed to be a New York State resident. You are a New York City resident if:
- your domicile is New York City; or
- you have a permanent place of abode there and you spend 184 days or more in the city."
My domicile is Long Island and the apartment I rented was not a permanent place of abode. Correct?
