State tax filing
Yes it matters. Now that I think we have all of the facts.
Facts: HOR is Alaska, live in DC, work in MD.
- HOR is resident state for you. See What is my military state of residence?
- You will not file Alaska since they don't have tax.
- You do not need to file a DC return since you are military. See Taxation of Compensation of Military Members and Spouses.
- You will need to file a MD return if you want a refund of your withholdings. See Nonresident
You should fill out and give Form MW507M to your employer to prevent future withholding.
