State tax filing
Based on your question it sounds like you have partial income for and are a partial resident of CA, and you will likely have to file two state income tax returns. One for CA and one for your resident state. You should enter your nonresident state tax return first which would be CA.
Per CA State Revenue website:
Part-year resident of CA:
If you lived inside or outside of California during the tax year, you may be a part-year resident.
As a part-year resident, you pay tax on:
- All worldwide income received while a California resident
- Income from California sources while you were a nonresident
What form to file
Nonresidents or part-year residents with a filing requirement must file:
Visit 540NR Booklet for more information.
Click here for additional information for part year residents of CA.
You should be filing a resident for your resident state and a nonresident tax return (CA). You should enter your nonresident state tax return first (CA).
It is recommended to prepare the nonresident state first because your resident state will provide you a credit for the tax you pay to the nonresident state. By preparing the nonresident state first, TurboTax can transfer the credit information to your resident state to return.
So this credit should be calculated for you. Is this what you are doing?

Since the facts you provided do not completely explain your situation (have you already downloaded two states returns, do you reside in another state, etc.) If this does not help please feel free to come back to TurboTax Community with additional questions or additional details regarding your question or you can click here for information on Turbo Tax Support.
