State tax filing
The reason why your refund increases is that you need to pay NYC taxes for the period of time you lived there. This is in addition to the NYS tax.
As far as entering the information into the return that populates the IT 360.1.
- When you prepare your state return.
- At some point during the interview, the program will ask if you were a resident of NYC and here you will indicate you were a part-year resident. Then you will fill in the dates.
- Then further into the NYS interview, the program will have you allocate your NYC resident income in the screens the follow. Each source of income will have its own allocation screen. This information entered will populate unto the it 360.
- part 3 will show the residence dates that you resided in New York City.
Go through the interview carefully as all this information is essential for your return. if entered correctly, you will not need to enter this information directly on Form IT 360.1.
