State tax filing

I tried to duplicate your situation in TT Home and Business, both online and desktop without success.  However I do believe I can suggest a workaround that should work.

First of all go back to your W-2 input entries and delete the withholding tax that is causing the problem.  Then follow these steps to enter the withholding that is giving you a problem:

  1. Click on deductions and credits and scroll down to Estimates and other taxes paid, click on show more and then click on start or revisit at Income taxes paid.
  2. Scroll down to Other Income Taxes Paid and click on Start at "Withholding not already entered on a W-2 or 1099"
  3. Answer yes
  4. Click in the appropriate Federal and/or state box and enter the amount(s) that is causing the error.

Click continue and the summary page will appear.  If all appears correct click done. You will return to the payments summary.
