Part year resident in NY and CT. How do I answer the Resident/Nonresident Student loan interest deductions questions?
Lived in NY 1.5 months (12.5%) and CT for 10.5 months (87.5%). Lets say I paid $5,000 in student loan interest.
NY:
what would the "New York Resident Deductions" for resident deductions and "New York Source Portion" for nonresident deductions amounts be? Do I multiply the percentage of time lived for both resident/nonresident by the total student loan interest?
CT:
what would the CT total of my student loan interest deduction be while I was a resident? I thought it would be (87.5%)*(5000) but that is giving me an error. Am I supposed to multiply 87.5% by the 2,500 federal amount?
