1040-X, IL and TurboTax
This is a follow-up to an earlier question I had, in reference to timing the 1040-X, after having filed and identified a mistake post-filing. I received the original refund from state almost immediately (two weeks), while the federal just confirmed (via "where is my refund" site) sending the original claimed refund by the 13th. Having understood that filing a 1040-X is better done *after* refunds are produced, so there is no confusion, I just re-entered TurboTax, corrected the mistake and used the "File" (this is the software locally installed version) to produce a payment to federal for what I needed to correct the original (just for the record: my actual refund is approx 12 times the mistake I need to pay with the -X, if that matters) - at this step being asked for a checking account and routing. The question I have is in reference to the part I owe back to the state (of ILLINOIS), due to this 1040-X correction: is that payment also going to take place from the same account, or does the state process need some other method of payment? I assume that TurboTax will send the 1040-X to both federal and state in the same time, as the original 1040, but I am not clear if what I owe now to IL is going to be processed as the original return did.
Note: looking at the IL state web site, there is no option to make a payment as result of a 1040-X, so I'm hoping TurboTax will process/communicate my payment info as the original refund.
