As you can see in the comments above, this is the only way to do this in TurboTax: file a part-year return, and list all the VA source income on the part-year return that was earned when a non-resident.
As I noted above, I believe the end state income and tax will be the same as if you had filed the separate part-year and the nonresident returns. If it's not, come back and tell us.
