To fix this error, please follow the steps below:
- Open your return.
- Click on State on the left-hand side.
- Click Continue next to your New Jersey return.
- In the NJ return, you come to a screen You've Finished your NJ Return.
- Scroll down to Taxes and Credits, select Update
- On the page About the Homestead Rebate and Property Tax Deduction, click Continue
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
If that does not clear the error, then uncheck the homeowner box for Line 38D when you are reviewing your return.
