State tax filing

No. Per the State of California, unemployment compensation is nontaxable for California state purposes. Therefore, you do not have to file a California nonresident return. You do, however, have to pay New York tax as a resident on all of your income. New York considers unemployment income as taxable income.

Please see California Unemployment for more information.
