I decided to take the plunge and get TurboTax desktop and follow SusanY1's instructions on the workaround mentioned in her first reply to me. Everything worked as expected and hoped. I filled in line 5 of the 3805P:TP and TT computed the 2.5% extra tax and inserted it on my CA form 540 on the correct line (63).
