State tax filing
Dividends can be apart of line 2 on NJ-DOP (Capital Gains Distributions). Page 11 on reference: https://www.state.nj.us/treasury/taxation/pdf/current/1040i.pdf
Line 2: Capital Gains Distributions
Enter your capital gains distributions from Form 1099-DIV(s) or similar statement(s).
For NJ-DOP line 2, TurboTax enters 2a- Total capital gain distributions on my 1099-DIV which includes 1a- Total ordinary dividends. For NJ-1040 line 17 (dividends), TurboTax enters 1a- Total ordinary dividends on my 1099-DIV.
Therefore, 1a- Total ordinary dividends on my 1099-DIV is double taxed on my NJ state filing.
