State tax filing

Yes, given that you are taking the standard deduction, ignoring the message requesting that you check an entry ostensibly relating to itemized deductions appears appropriate.  However, the message may interfere with your ability to e-file.  If it does, see if you can delete the form which contains your HI itemized deductions given that it does not appear that you need such form.

Assuming you are using TurboTax Online, to view your forms, and delete certain forms, follow these steps.

  1. Open or continue your return in TurboTax.
  2. In the left menu, select Tax Tools and then Tools.
  3. In the pop-up window Tool Center, choose Delete a form.
  4. Select Delete next to the form/schedule/worksheet in the list and follow the instructions.

Here is a link to a TurboTax article discussing how to delete a form which you also may find helpful.
