In order of residency, the 1-month state is Michigan, the 5-month state is Maryland, and the 6-month state is South Dakota, which does not have a state income tax. I understand that I pay the tax in the first two states; this is not my first multi-state year. It is, however, the first time I have had three states in one tax year, the longest being a state without an income tax.
I am a civilian federal annuitant and each state taxes my federal benefits differently, so my 1040 needs to be accurate as I enter data. My question was how to add the third state, the one without a state income tax. I couldn't find a way.
