Look at the Two-Income Married Couple Subtraction Worksheet

Line 1 on the worksheet is "1. Adjusted gross income from your federal return." You know what your federal AGI is because you can see it when you "Preview my 1040" on the federal return.

Line 2 is any additions allocated to each spouse - you entered these in the Maryland interview.

Line 4 is any subtractions allocated to each spouse - you also entered these in the Maryland interview.

Are the odds that the lesser of lines 5a and 5b will be less than $1,200? You should have a good feel for the amount on line 6 (the allocated state income for the spouse with lesser income).

Since line 7 is "$1,200 or the amount on line 6, whichever is less", I would think that you would have a very good idea if you qualified for it, even before you started.

I am puzzled. Every time I have done a Maryland test return, the software told me if I qualified or not without me needing to give it any of these entries.. Why don't you let the software compute this for you?
