Thank you, @DanielV01. That really cleared it up. It's unfortunate that TurboTax was unable to automatically generate the prorates for me, even though I did follow the recommendations of completing the NY non-residency return prior to the NJ residency return (perhaps it's a bug since they were technically part-year filings instead of a black & white residency/non-residency situation) so your clarifications were very helpful.
