Minnesota M1PR Property Tax refund eFile and Property Tax Statement Worksheet
Is the M1PR Property tax now eFiled along with the state eFile for 2020?
*** Update: Yes TurboTax Deluxe 2020 can now eFile the M1PR but it's tricky - you have to go through the eFile process twice. It doesn't automatically file with the Fed and State and there's no warning (as of now). See my post below where I answered my own question. ***
TurboTax Deluxe 2020 changed the way this form was handled as in previous years it used to have you print it for paper filing and clearly said that it needed to be mailed, right in the program as one of the steps. Now in TurboTax 2020, it has you fill out a Property Tax Statement Worksheet and it says on the top of the form:
-------------
"IMPORTANT: Taxpayers filing returns on paper are not required to
complete this worksheet. Attach a copy of the Property Tax Statement
you received to the tax return filed. Any entries made here, however,
will transfer to the appropriate lines on the tax return.
Entries on this worksheet are REQUIRED for electronic filing purposes.
Enter appropriate amounts from the Property Tax Statement on this
worksheet."
---------------
I took this to indicate that the M1PR would now be eFiled but wen looking at the summary page entitled "Electronic Filing Instructions for your 2020 Minnesota Tax Return" it instructs you to mail the M1PR and gives the address under the heading: "Other Forms to Mail".
How can I tell if form M1PR was filed or not?
Just a comment on the new Worksheet: If is somewhat confusing and doesn't match all county's forms. I filed different returns from two counties and had to refer to several different mailings to fill out the form. One of the county's form just listed amounts titled Line 1, Line 2 and Line 5 without telling you what they were so it's tricky to get them on the worksheet.
Thanks
