After you file
When you select to update the vehicle, on the first screen you'll have the option to select the box that you stopped using the vehicle for business in 2017. Otherwise, you should have made this selection last year. Since you took depreciation on the vehicle, the software will ask you questions to see if you have a gain or loss.
If you want to skip handling the vehicle completely, you can delete it.
To do so:
- Log into the software and select the blue button Take me to my return
- Select Federal from the left side bar
- Then select Income & Expenses from the categories along the top of the software
- Scroll down and select Edit next to Self-Employment
- Next select Edit next to the self-employed business
- Click Continue through the informational summary screens
- On the Income and Expenses summary screen, scroll down under Expenses and click Edit/Review next to Vehicle
- You'll come to a summary screen of the vehicles you've entered, click Edit next to the vehicle to report the vehicle no longer used for business or select the Trash Can Icon/Delete option to the right of Edit to remove the vehicle without reporting it.
- On the next screen, at the bottom of the page, you'll see a check box for I stopped using this vehicle in 2017. Check the box and continue through the screens to answer the questions.
