If my father filed me as dependent this year on our family's taxes, when I'm actually independent this year, is 1040X the only form necessary to make the change?

If my father filed me (his son) as a dependent when he submitted our family's taxes, when in fact I am an independent this year, is the 1040X document the only form he needs to submit to make the change? In other words, he initially filed me as a dependent, but I am going to file my own taxes this year as an independent, so is there anything more he needs to do besides mailing in the 1040X amendment form?
After he mails the form, are there any other changes he needs to make before I can start filing my taxes as an independent? Do I need to wait for the IRS to confirm they received the 1040X form before I can submit my tax returns?
