After you file

Some tax returns take longer to process than others for many reasons. Sit tight and your return will – eventually – move along in the queue

Once you transmit your return, your e-file goes to pending status, where it will stay until it's either been accepted or rejected by the government. Think of pending as "in transit" or "in limbo".

Once your return has been accepted (received) by the government, they take over the refund status update duties, since they hold the purse strings. The status in TurboTax will remain as "accepted."

Where's My Refund?  tool includes a tracker that displays progress through 3 stages: (1) Return Received, (2) Refund Approved, and (3) Refund Sent. It also provides an actual personalized refund date as soon as the IRS processes your tax return and approves your refund. It doesn't show information about amended returns.

The TurboTax Refund Tracker, on the other hand, projects an estimated date range on when you can expect your refund, based on other TurboTax customers who have already received their refunds.

Hope this helps!
