After you file

There is noting that you can claim unless the custodial parent chooses to release the child's exemption to you with a signed 8332 form.  Lacking a court ordered custody agreement compelling the custodial parent to release it, then unless that parent chooses to release it, you are out of luck.

Child support is not deductible and makes no difference in claiming the child.

You might point out to the custodial parent that if the exemption is release to you that you can claim the $4,050 exemption and the child tax credit if you otherwise qualify, the custodial parent can still claim the EIC, Child care Credit and Head of House Hold filing status if otherwise qualified to claim those.
