After you file
I believe that is referring to enrollment status in college. Your options are full-time, at least half-time and less than half time. You need to be enrolled at least half-time to qualify for an education credit. The school will normally determine that and enter an "X" in box 8 if you are at least half-time enrolled. It refers to being enrolled in what the school considers at least half the credit hours necessary for a full semester.
Also, you may be getting an error associated with a Form 1099-Q entry. If that pertains to you and your distribution from your education savings plan was not taxable because you spent the money on qualifying education expenses, you can delete the Form 1099-Q entry and the associated "Person on return worksheet". You don't need to enter the Form 1099-Q in TurboTax if the distribution was used for qualifying education expense.
Follow these instructions:
- Choose the Tax Tools option on your left menu bar while working on your return
- Choose Tools
- Choose the Delete a form option under Other Helpful links
- Find the Form 1099-Q and "person on the return" worksheet and delete them
