I just got one of these letters for my teenage son today as well and I also confirm that the box was already checked off on his 1040 when it was submitted. I went ahead and downloaded the desktop version of TurboTax and amended his tax return and I’m going to mail it back tomorrow, but even when I am amended through TurboTax, it asked me why I was amending because I didn’t make any changes. I’m also sending a copy of the letter that I received. I guess I haven’t gotten the parent letter in the mail yet it’ll probably come tomorrow. I didn’t know what else to do.
