After you file
I'm not sure if this is the correct way, but I went into forms mode and found this in 1040-X:
Oginal 2024 Return Payments Smart Worksheet
I put the original tax paid in line B and I put the amount the IRS withdrew in line C (Additional tax paid after return was filed). This resulted in a federal refund amount of the amount that was taken from me, as seen from the status at the top of TurboTax and on line 22 of 1040-X. The 1040 line 37 still shows my original amount owed (what I already paid) as due. The final 1040-X line 13 Estimated tax payments shows 0 for original amount (which seems odd). It shows my original estimated tax payment as "net change" and "correct amount"
When I go to Review it says "You're Done! Print and Mail Your Returns." However when I clicked on the File tab it shows "We recommend e-filing your federal return" which I didn't see or I overlooked yesterday.
However there's another issue... now my CA refund is showing a nonzero amount that's different from the one of my first amended return (which has been accepted but I've yet to get any refund). I don't want to do a CA amendment if it isn't needed, but the options under state show selections for federal and nothing for state. Does it have to be both or none?
Would buying the Live Tax Advice option allow someone to review the amended return details? I didn't get this but I see the option to buy it. I'll pay for it if this is needed to be sure of no other issues.
