After you file

I have gone through the whole tax return,  redid some of the form/worksheets manually and got a result and then did an amended in TT.

1st,  I can't figure out how TT managed to screw up the amount of taxable Social Security in the original return.  The worksheet in TT only haz the top number and bottom result entered.  None of the other lines are filled in.  But now, after doing the amended, all of lines on TT 1040SR (don't know about the worksheet)  match what I did manually. Including taxable amount SS.

2nd, The weird thing is that the TT end result is that I owe IRS, ie: according to the red number sum total at top of screen.  However, when I look at the TT 1040SR is shows that I get a refund (same as what I figured manually),  just less than the original refund.   What do I do with the conflicting info?  Ignore the seemingly incorrect red, 'you owe money' amount at top of screen? and just let it send in the amended form with what is the correct amount on 1040SR form?  Or does the conflicting info indicate something?

3rd: Since IRS already direct deposit refunded an amount that is more than it should be according to the amended 1040SR, what do I do about the difference (less than $100)?  Wait for a bill? or use Direct Pay to send IRS the balance, after electronic filing the 1040-X?   Or, send balance before the amended and include the verification number on the amended?

I'll wait to hear from you before proceeding.

Thanks
