After you file
Yes, you will need to amend your 2022 and 2023 returns, which includes form 8919. Here is how to report this.
- Go to the Federal section in TurboTax.
- Click on Wages & Income.
- Scroll down to Less Common Income and select Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099-C.
- Choose Other income not already reported on a Form W-2 or Form 1099.
- When asked Did you receive any other wages?, select Yes.
- Continue through the next few screens until you reach Did you earn any other wages?, then select Yes.
- Choose Employee compensation that was not reported on a W-2.
- Enter your employer’s name and EIN from your W-2.
- Now report the income and the other information required on the form.
TurboTax will then generate Form 8919 for you, calculating the Social Security and Medicare taxes that should have been withheld.
Now since your income was needed to calculate the FICA taxes not withheld, we are going to exclude the income since this was already reported in the original W2. This will leave just the unreported FICA taxes on form 8919.
- Log into your account
- Select Wages and income
- Less Common income
- Miscellaneous Income, 1099-A, 1099>start
- Scroll to the bottom of the page to Other Reportable Income
- Other taxable income, answer yes
- Then give a brief description of the income and the amount listed. Here enter Duplicate W2 Income and record it with a minus sign in front of the amount, thus offsetting the income you just entered above.
You will do this in each amended return. For the reason code, use C.
