After you file
If you review the personal information section you can click 'Edit' next to your name. Your name and address will appear on the screen and then if you click continue there will be a list asking if any of these things apply to you. One of those is "Another taxpayer can claim (your name) on their tax return". Check that box.
You can efile the amendment but it will take a while for the IRS to process it. Your father won't be able to efile until after it is processed. The smart play is probably to mail in the amendment along with your father's return so that they arrive together. This will delay processing on both returns but will ensure that everything gets processed correctly.
