IRS transcript 2023 has my filing status and AGI wrong after filing a 1040x. Now it won’t accept my 2024 return. What should I do?
I have filed my 2023 taxes in April 2024 as Married filing jointly. I had to amend it last month (February 2025, obviously again as Married filing jointly) to add a forgotten IRA contribution. Very simple stuff.
Now that the amendment for 2023 was accepted I went ahead to file my 2024 taxes, which were rejected, saying that my wife's AGI from 2023 did not match IRS records. To my surprise, when I checked the IRS account transcripts, my filing status is as SINGLE. So l went to check my 1040-x and I did mark the correct MARRIED FILING JOINTLY.
Did anyone went through this limbo? Any guidance on how to fix this? It won’t accept my returns this year unless I use the incorrect AGI. What should I do to file?
