First time amending. Haven't filed state yet.

I filed our Federal returns the end of February and we received our refund a couple of weeks later. I file our State returns manually because one, I'm cheap, and two, I rarely get enough back to be worth it. We're pretty close to breaking even every year for State, so it sure isn't worth $20 to e-file. I still haven't mailed those in yet by the way.

Monday, my wife received a call that she received the wrong tax documents. She's retired from the company we both work/worked for. She'd been going back in and helping train new TMs. She worked through a local college rather than her old employer. That's just how they do things. The first year that she did this she was a contractor of the college. She got a 1099 every year and could claim her mileage. She received a 1099 this year and I didn't think anything about it and filed our taxes. Well, they made a change and all of the retiree trainers became employees of the college, so she should've received a W-2 for last year instead of a 1099, unbeknownst to me. I now have her W-2 in hand and the amount is more than her 1099 showed, and she won't be able to claim mileage since she isn't a contractor. So, I need to amend our 2024 taxes. I know TurboTax leads us through this and I don't expect any major trouble from this other than I'm sure I'll have to pay some small portion of our Federal refund back. My question concerns my, as yet, unfiled State taxes. Do I need to get off of my rear-end and mail the original return in, then send in the amended return or, since I haven't filed yet, can I just send the amended return in?

Thanks.
