After you file

It is possible your employer didn't send the original W-2 to the IRS before they issued the new one. In that case you don't have anything to worry about. If they sent the original then they would need to issue a corrected one to fix that. In either case, the IRS will have a copy of one of the forms so once you file your tax return if your W-2 entry doesn't agree with what the IRS has, they will send you a notice and you can straightened it out then.

 

Also, you many be able to see the transcript record the IRS has by logging into your account with the IRS.
